Summertime is here and it’s been full of extremely hot days followed by bouts of heavy rain. Here’s some tips on keeping your skin in tip top shape through the warmest (and strangely pretty wet) time of the year.

First, hydrate!

Drinking lots of water is the golden rule that celebrities swear by to get a smooth complexion and refreshed looking skin. Many skincare brands and blogs also advocate drinking more water for a better complexion. Although there have not been any scientific studies to conclude that drinking more water will improve your skin’s condition, we still believe that drinking water is essential to keeping yourself hydrated – especially during the warmest period of the year.

An increase in your daily intake of water can reduce the signs of dry skin and may help improve your skin’s overall appearance.

Second, exfoliate regularly.

Using a scrub once or twice a week is good to remove dead cells and unclog pores. Cleansing your face daily is good, but adding in an exfoliant into your weekly routine can help to ensure that your skin is kept clean and fresh! Furthermore, this ensures that any products used can be well absorbed into your skin. When the weather is hot and humid, dirt and sweat can accumulate in your pores more easily, thus doing regular exfoliation will keep your skin looking and feeling all clean and fresh!

Third, use sunblock!

Applying sunblock ensures that your skin is kept well away from the harmful UV rays from the sun. An increase in exposure to UV rays can lead to skin cancer, cataracts and the ageing of your skin. If you think applying sunblock is too thick on your skin, you can find brands that retail water based sunblock that are lighter and feel less thick upon application. Alternatively, you can use products that have built-in sunblock in them. Using these products with sunblock will ensure that you still get the coverage you need without feeling like you are applying too much sunblock!

These are just some of tips we have gathered on keeping up your summertime skin care routine and we hope that this will act as a great start to keeping your skin summer ready all season long!
