Swoon Over These Scents

Swoon Over These Scents

There’s nothing better than coming home to the relaxing scent of lavender or calming eucalyptus candles. Just light a match, turn on your favourite tunes, and relax on your couch as the calming smells take your worries away. Candles are the ultimate home accessory that help make rooms look, feel, and smell cosier, so we recommend stocking up on not one, but a few! Let us dive into the world of scents as we recommend you some of our favourite brands.

Mad Et Len

This niche fragrance house is based in Southern France, just outside the Grasse region. Their candles are made with all-natural ingredients and are bottled in black iron vessels that give off a firm industrial chic vibe. Though the packaging seems masculine, some scents have a softer tone. One of which is the Lili Neroli scent that opens with notes of hips of neroli, lily of the valley, sparkling fruit and flowers.

Candles of Light

Homegrown brand Candles of Light has some of the prettiest candle holders we’ve seen. Their candles come in terrazzo holders in a variation of pink, white and black tones. Apart from the alluring holders, the candles themselves smell divine. Our favourite scent is Dawn; a hand poured all-natural soy and beeswax candle featuring essential oils of calming lavender, uplifting citrus and mint.

Sally’s Room

Another homegrown brand that we love is Sally’s Room. They make small batch hand poured soy candles that come in interesting scents like Sake; featuring Peach and White Tea. The bright peach top notes lead to the hint of white tea base note at the end.

Jo Malone

Jo Malone is an industry stalwart in room fragrances and perfumes. Long known for offering a staggering number of fragrances in various iterations of fruits, herbs, spices and oils, Jo Malone has earned its place as the luxury fragrance brand. Though perfumes and room fragrances are what they are known for, their candles are also worth a mention as well. We personally think it’s a great idea that they turned popular fragrances into candles that will keep our homes smelling like a bright summer’s morning.

Byredo

This Swedish brand began as a fragrance house offering a range of mostly unisex perfumes, but has expanded into home fragrances, body care products and accessories. One of the more interesting variants we’ve come across is Bibliothèque; inspired by memories of libraries. This candle embodies the velvety quality of paper accompanied with stone fruits and a base note of patchouli.

Hush Candles

Hush Candles is a local brand that makes artisanal candles from organic soy wax and natural essential oils. The brand is committed to making candles with organic soy wax as it provides a cleaner burn and can last up to 50% longer than paraffin wax candles. We love their Bergamot and Basil candle which helps to reduce stress and anxiety.

Overose

Despite diving into the scene only a few years ago, this luxury French fragrance house has risen through the ranks and has been featured in major publications like Cosmopolitan magazine. They play on the pink-and-holographic yet minimalistic aesthetic that resounds amongst millennials today. We love Anamorphine; a fragrance reminiscent of a summer stroll through the Parisian park at dusk. With a base note of peonies and sparkling raspberry lemonade, with a splash of rosewater and a dash of kaffir lime, this fragrance is something you will not forget.

We hope our above recommendations can help you find a candle that makes you want to just snuggle under the covers with a great book and a nice cup of Monogram tea!
